C’est l’Halloween!

Today I introduced the song C'est l'halloween by Matt Maxwell.  Many of the kids were already familiar with it.  One student commented that he remembers his brother singing this song when he was in grade 3. The students LOVE this song as it is a great way to introduce all that Halloween vocabulary. I placed a copy of the lyrics in their French binder. I will also use this song as our clean up song this week as well.  When it is time to clean up and transition to the next activity I will ... continue reading...

Dans ma famille

Today I told the kids a little about myself... In French I told them that in my family there are 4 people.  I have a mother.  Her name is Yvette. I have a sister.  Her name is Rachelle. I have a brother. His name is Jean-Marc.  Then I asked the kids to tell me about their family.  This allows the students to develop their French oral skills before we put it on paper. It is soooo important that French second language learners are able to say it before they can write it.  This will help them ... continue reading...

During our writing time we wrote a story comparing 3 little monsters to each other. During individual writing time the students picked 3 monsters I printed from  http://www.2teachingmommies.com/  and wrote their own story in ... continue reading...

Wow!  What an exciting day in grade 3 French Immersion. Today we worked on Mes Amis a project where the students describe their friends in french. Students worked hard all week describing their friends orally in order to write about them today. I found this cute art project on pinterest. I modified the original pinterest pin which seemed to attach the book to the art project. For our project though, I wanted the book separate simply because I wanted the students to read their books to ... continue reading...

Les amis… mais oui!

This is how I use “Ma rubrique” . Students entering my class have limited exposure to French. I want them to realize that not EVERYTHING is different. Writing in French is just like writing in English and that many skills they have mastered from K-2 are still applicable in French.  In the beginning I focus on these similarities so that students are able to use “Ma rubrique” from the very first day. Right now we are concentrating on writing the date in French. This seems simple, but ... continue reading...
